Security and roller shutters
Built-on or built-in shutters for homes, worked by hand or by electric motor, for strong security at night.
Security shutters in Inverness
Security shutters give your home strong, visible protection at night and while you are away, and can be operated manually or with the help of an electric motor. They can be installed built-on or built-in:
- Built-on: installed on the exterior of the building, with the shutter box visible from the outside. This can be a lower cost option, as there is less work involved in installing the shutter. Built-on shutters can also be installed between or inside the openings.
- Built-in: built into the lintel, with the shutter box hidden from view. They give all the benefits of easily operated security at night, but by day disappear, leaving the house looking neat.
Building the shutter box and guide rails into the wall during construction or a major refurbishment achieves a neat finish and, more importantly, high levels of security. If you are planning building work, talk to us early so the shutter can be designed in.
Electric shutters open and close at the press of a button or turn of a key, which makes them easy to use every day. Manual shutters are a simple, economical option where the shutter is used less often.
We fit shutters for homes only, not shops or commercial premises.

Common questions
What is the difference between built-on and built-in shutters?
A built-on shutter is fixed to the outside of the building with the shutter box visible. A built-in shutter is built into the lintel, so the box is hidden and the finish is neater.
Are security shutters manual or electric?
Either. They can be operated manually or with an electric motor.
Which is cheaper, built-on or built-in?
Built-on is often the lower cost option, as there is less installation work involved.
